summer evening
    the slow moving river pulls
    at a willow's limbs

    gale warning —
    a small red boat disappears
    appears . . . disappears . . .

    sailor's homecoming
    the smell of dead clams
    at low tide

    chill fog
    a flock of gulls huddle
    at water's edge

    summer's end
    the sandcastle washes out
    with the tide

    freezing spindrift
    the amusement pier rides
    caked with ice

    starlit beach
    the rhythmic pounding
    of my heart

    in and out
    with the tide,
    a bikini top
