The Holy Men
The Holy Men
of the conquerors
of this new world
saw the priests
of the conquered savages
(their word, not mine)
offer up the life
of one of their own,
cut out that persons heart and burn it,
to appease some pagan god.
How barbaric spake the Holy Men
and clasping their crucifixes
to their hearts
prayed.
